Castle Medieval
What were the materials that went into making a medieval castle and what was the process of making one?
Please be specific
Depending on how far back you go it's either stone or mott and bailey,
Mott and bailey were the older of the two types, and were very large mounds of earth built of soil and stone, with a keep built on top, the outside had a big ditch and very big wooden wall. However these burned quite easily and so castles were built using stone cut from rocky cliffs and transported by sea and overland via rolling on logs. The first stone was unmortared, but later on they found that a lime mortar mix made the stonework stronger.
