Why does my compact fluorescent light bulb burned out?
I bought 4 GE CFL for my Living Room last fall and one failed around Christmas, but others ok, so I bought two more for the entrance to my house where my lights are on 24 / 7. They are under the roof and inside the Light Fixture but they burned down in within 12 hours. Is damp enough to short them? They are advertised as All Purpose, but I can not know whether I use them incorrectly by placing outside their home. I was told that turning a CFL on and off is not ideal, but I did not hear that they do not work outside the home. Lamp lasts years old, and apparently cable socket properly, or at least they are based right.

Yes, excess humidity can cause the CFL to 'Failed', especially with short simple causes occur which in turn cause internal failure. CFL is very subtle, and should be treated with caution, and some are best used indoors where the dimmer is not required. Your use of them in front of your door is the place perfect, but outside, now, I still would go with regular light bulb until technology catches up with practical application. Do not get me wrong, I love CFL's, as well as LEDs, and I would prefer to use one or the other, instead of ordinary light bulbs, but we really are not quite there yet for each location. Another year or two and I think we will have it though.
