how long will my baby turtle live without a uvb lamp or the lighting?help!?
i just got this baby turtle and i've been researching on it. it says that u need lighting and it costs a lot of money. i'm just wonderin' how long my baby turtles will live and if lighting is really a necessity for them. oh and in addition, i don't know why my turtle won't eat its pellet food. it just goes to waste and gets soggy in the water. i've had them for 3 days now and still no eating is going on. please help me.
well I have a painted turtle and a red eared slider and in the beginning I could not get the light I wanted either . Anyways you can always put him in the sun a half hour everyday and that is just as good if not better because that's how they get uv naturally . just make sure he is out of reach of predators maybe even do it at a time when u can sit near him in the yard or balcony . As for the food just try a variety of things to see what he likes . You can try romaine lettuce but when they are babies they usually eat more meat for the protein, They sell at pet stores blood worms ,meal worms and also feeder guppies . When he gets older he will go to more veggies but still you can throw him some worms weekly also goldfish crickets and crayfish . Oh also when he is in the sun make sure there is no top on the container he is in so that it doesn't block the uv rays . Also you can put him in a bucket when you move him outside just make sure it had no chemicals in it and put a rock so he can bask out of the water . Good luck!
