Rust Hand
How do you clean an old hand gun with rust on it?
I have an old gun that has rusted through the years and I want to clean it. I know as a child my brothers cleaned theirs with some kind of oil, but I don't know what kind. Thank you for all of your answers.
Good answers. I only want to add for you to inspect the barrel for deep pitting from rust. You need to clean it real well and run a brass bore brush through with Hoppes No 9 or CLR and then run several cleaning cloth patches through and then inspect the bore. If you see deep pits take it to a gun smith BEFORE you attempt to fire it. Deep pitting can compromise the barrels strength and you could have catastrophic failure, same holds true for the cylinder walls if it’s a revolver.
